It’s been at least a year now since you went to your new work place and officially took over your new office. At first, you were busy decorating a new home and learning a new job, but now that you’re settled in you start noticing the same things that you noticed when you first arrived.
The walls are a dull, drab colour and are looking decidedly depressing. The sun streaming in through the industry-quality blinds is barely sufficient to light a cupboard and the furniture is just about as plain and worn as it can get. You reckon that a decent amount of time has passed for you to start plotting the redecoration of your office.
Naturally, before you start it’s always excellent to make certain that the powers that be won’t have a problem with your plans. And remember that it is just an office and you should treat your decorating plans as such.
Emulsioning the walls a ostentatious red colour probably won’t work. Though, you could cheer up things up a bit by repainting the walls a bright and jolly colour that won’t upset anyone, least of all you. Then you could always take down those ancient blinds that have been hanging there since the early’70’s and replace them with something brighter and more modern.
On the other hand, if the whole of the office is done up in the same style with the same blinds hanging on every window, your a la mode changes might not go down too well with your co-workers. So, reckon twice before doing something desperate that changes the whole style and atmosphere of the entire office.
There are, though, simpler ways you can carry out your office decorating project without too much hassle on your part and which doesn’t necessarily need to be thought over too much. You can cheer up up any room by placing a pot or two of flowering plants here and there around your office.
But, if you’re at all like me and you don’t have green fingers or if your presence is death to any plants near you, then maybe you shouldn’t bother with plants. You could though bring in some bright prints and hang them up on your walls. Or perhaps you have kids and they have painted some smashing pictures for you.
Kids’ paintings work well and will show your colleagues a different side of your character. But, don’t get stressed out over anything though – you really don’t need a simple decorating project to add to the rest of your worries – an office decorating project should be fun and stress-free.
Remember, your office decorating project need not mean your turning the whole office, or yourself, on its head. It should be something that you can live with on a daily basis.
After all, you spend a lot of the day at your office, it should be a place where you can be just as at ease as you are in your own home.
